A Wintry Week in December (12/12-12-16)

Happy Monday parents! Hope you had a great weekend with your family and stayed warm during our snowy morning yesterday. Christmas break is quickly approaching which means we have a lot to fit in in these last two weeks. Please take a look at what will be happening in fourth grade.

Math - The students continue to work through Unit 4 which is on the various methods of multiplication. This unit will be coming to an end next week which means that your child will have their test. A study guide will be sent home on Wednesday evening and will be optional, but if it is completed, it will be two extra credit points on their test.

Science - The students will be starting their new Science unit today on adaptations and patterns. This unit focuses on classification of plants and animals and how theses species learn to adapt and survive in their environments.

Reading- The students are learning about challenging parts in nonfiction texts. We've read articles that are considered hybrids. That means the article mixes narrative (story) text with expository (informational) text to help you learn about a topic.  The students will also be learning how to tackle tough new vocabulary by looking in the word (prefixes, suffixes) and around the word (context clues).  Next week we will begin a class research project.

Writing- Many students have begun publishing their personal essays. They are editing by checking for correct punctuation, spelling, and capitalization.  The essay is due to Google Classroom by Friday, Dec. 16th.  We will begin persuasive essays next week.

Social Studies- There is a Pennsylvania Regions Quiz on Wed, Dec. 14th.  The students will be allowed to use their notes and their textbooks.  No studying is required.

Word Work- Tic Tac Toe homework is due next Day 6, Dec. 20th!

Vocabulary- We have found some really interesting words while reading The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. The Word of the Day Quiz is this Wednesday the 14th

Upcoming Dates:

December 24-January 2nd: Christmas Break!
