The Week Before the Break (11/14-11/18)

Happy Monday parents! Can you believe we only have five days until Thanksgiving break? The month of November flew by, but it'll be nice to spend time with our family and love ones and eat some awesome food. Please check out what is going on this week in fourth grade and Ms. Duke and myself look forward to seeing you parent-teacher conferences.

Math- The students will complete all of unit 3 this week, which means they will have their unit unit 3 test on Thursday. I will send home a study guide Wednesday night that will be optional. If they choose to complete it, which I highly recommend, they will receive two extra credit points on their math test.

Science - We continue to discuss different concepts that focus on weather. More specifically this week on focus will be on clouds and how the different types of clouds can help us predict the weather.

Reading- We are learning to read nonfiction text well by previewing, making connections, and identifying text structure.  The students should be reading about 15 pages per 20 minutes.  We met our goal 2 days in a row.  Make sure your child is reaching this goal at home!

Writing- The students are coming up with evidence, such as facts or mini stories, to support the reasons for their opinion essays.

Vocabulary- Word of the Day Quiz on Friday!

Word Work- Tic Tac Toe Homework is due Wednesday!

A Happy Week in November (11/07-11/11)

Happy Monday parents! We can't believe that it is only two full weeks until Thanksgiving break. With that being said, there is a lot that needs to be accomplished in these upcoming weeks. Please take a look at what your child will be completing this week in fourth grade.

Math - The students continue to work through unit 3 on fractions and their different properties. Their unit 3 test will be given next Thursday, which means that a study guide will be sent home on Wednesday. This will be optional again, but worth two extra credit points in they complete it. This Friday, the students will be completing their Study Island Benchmark for math. A paper will be sent home with how your child did on this benchmark. I ask that you sign it and return it at your earliest convenience.

Science - In Science, we are continuing to work through on Earth's Water unit. The next two weeks we will focus on weather and its patterns. The students will also learn about clouds and how different clouds can help us predict different types of weather patterns. They will have a short pop quiz this Friday.

Reading- We will begin our Nonfiction Unit!  It is so important that children learn how to read all different types of nonfiction texts.  The students will practice all sorts of strategies from making connections to analyzing nonfiction texts. Encourage them to read types of nonfiction texts at home such as an informative magazine, the newspaper, or an educational blog.

Writing- The students will be working on writing opinion essays. We will use many techniques to elaborate.
