A Short Week in October (10/11-10/14)

Happy Tuesday parents! We hope that you enjoyed your long weekend with your children. It was so nice to see all of the students dressed up so nice for their school pictures today. Please take a look at what will be happening this week in October and any upcoming dates. Also, parent teacher conferences will be the week of Thanksgiving and the portal to sign up for a conference will be opened on October 17th. We encourage every parent to sign up so we have the opportunity to meet about your child and to see how they are progressing in fourth grade.

To access the portal:

  • Go to the district website
  • Click on the parent portal and scroll down to parent-teacher conferences
  • Login using your child's seven digit ID number for both the username and password
  • Scroll down to the teacher and click on the conference time you would like
Ms. Duke and I will work together to try and make sure we have the chance to meet with every parent together if possible. Also, for those of you who do not have access to a computer, we will be sending a paper form home to help out with this issue. Please remember times are a first come first serve basis.

Math: Students will continue to work through Unit 2. This week we will be focusing on properties of triangles and quadrilaterals. They will be tested on their basic facts on Friday for Marking Period 1.

Science: The students will start a new unit this week on Earth's Water. We will be focusing on this unit until about the beginning of December. They will be learning about the different resources of water, the water cycle, and ways that we can keep our Earth's water clean.

Reading: The students are identifying theme by using the story elements as evidence.  Please be sure your child is reading every night and fill out the Home Reading Log.  We had a total of only 10 students who completed an entire reading log for the month of September. Those students will earn a trip to the school store where they can spend $20.

Writing: We are publishing our realistic fiction stories on Google Docs! This can be accessed from home. The students are learning about past and present tenses, as well as applying other conventions to written work.

Social Studies: We are going to have lessons every Day 1 and Day 2.  Map skills is still the topic this week and next. There will be a quiz soon on compass rose and the 7 continents.

Word Work: Homework is due Thursday! (Day 6 as always).
