Our Crazy Week (10/05-10/09)

This week is full of events and trying to keep up with them all might be a little hard. Monday we had our field trip, which was very successful. The kids learned a lot, were super engaged, and for the most part were on their very best behavior. Tomorrow, we have our two hour delay. Please make sure that you do not send your child to school at regular school time. On Thursday, Mazie Gable will be hosting parent visitation day. Ms. Duke and myself sent home letters on Monday with times that are available for you to come in. If you are interested in coming in on that day, you need to fill out the slip and send it to school with your child. We also encourage you to stop in the office before the day of parent visitation to have your ID scanned, so it will be much easier for you to get to class on that day. Once again,  I, Miss Harlacker, will not be at school Thursday or Friday. Prior to knowing when parent visitation would be for this school year, I booked a trip for a long weekend. I am sorry that I will not be there to share this fun day with you and your child. If you have any more questions about this, please email, call, or chat me on Remind!

Also, grades have been posted to Edline and will be updated weekly. You will be receiving a paper copy of their grades this Thursday with their Thursday Check-Ins!

Check out what we are doing in class this week:

Math - In math this week, we continue to work through Unit 2. The students have been working on factoring, multiples, and deciding whether a number is prime or composite. I have been pulling small groups of students who seem like they may be struggling. I can not stress enough the importance of practicing their multiplication fact fluency, especially for this unit. It is hard to find the factors of numbers when you do not know your basic multiplication facts. I will be creating fact fluency packets for each student to help them master their fact fluency both at school and at home. Please continue to encourage your child to complete their homework and practice at home.

Science - This week, the students have been working in collaborative groups to finish their seasons project. They will be finishing and presenting these projects on Thursday for parent visitation day. We will be finishing our unit on the Solar System by this Friday, which means the following Tuesday will be their quiz. I will be sending a study guide home. Please make sure you take the time to study with your child over the long holiday weekend.

Reading- We will be engaged in various activities to get a grasp on inferring.  Making inferences is "reading between the lines." The students will use author's clues and their background knowledge to infer what is happening in the text.  We will apply this strategy to our reading.

Social Studies- Still working on map skills!
